Getting at the Root of the Issue

Our bodies are incredibly intelligent with the ability to self-heal at extraordinary rates and eliminate substances from the body that are harmful. The systems of the body have built in structures to ensure they can continue to function, despite the ever-changing routines we might place on the body.

Yet, unfortunately, our present society has created wildly increased stress on the body and its ability to dump the junk!  Environmental toxins, processed foods, societal expectations, emotional stress (quite often unresolved), screen exposure, the psychological extremes of social media, and irregular schedules are a few of the main things making it increasingly difficult for the body to alleviate all of the toxins it needs in order to continue to function at its highest capacity.

Ayurvedic cleanse is one way that we can reduce the physical and mental stress on the body, support its ability to dump the undesirable toxins, and restore the cells to a natural state of health.  Cleanse can look a great number of ways and the best cleanse is really dependent on the individual.  Vedic text encourages us to practice ritucharya, or seasonal cleanse, at least twice per year.  Spring and Fall are considered the ideal times to cleanse in an attempt to reset the body while a deeper cleanse might be called for at another time of year, when the systems need more immediate support to support homeostasis.

It is a great joy to see the ways that cleanse supports individuals to achieve their unique health goals. Some of the common results of Ayurvedic Cleanse are:

  • Alleviating excess dosha from the body and reducing digestive symptoms

  • Resetting the fat metabolism and helping achieve healthy body weight

  • Restoring proper sleep cycles

  • Eliminating unhelpful cravings and eating patterns

  • Improving skin

  • Eliminating toxins that cause stagnation of lymph, inflammation, and illnesses of the reproductive, nervous, digestive, urinary, and other systems of the body

  • Fostering clarity, groundedness, creativity and improving focus and concentration

  • Inviting a greater sense of awareness of one’s body, mind, soul connection

  • Encouraging improved daily health practices both during and after cleanse

  • Promotes ideal health, well-being and spirituality

Ayurvedic cleanse differs from other types of popular cleanses as it encourages a gentle removal of toxins and excess dosha from the body and then hosts a process of rebuilding and restoration.  We eliminate the bad and then create an environment of potential for increased strength, immunity, energy and even a recommitment to individualized health practices that suit our unique needs and in each unique season and time of life.  Other cleanses can be extreme in their efforts and while they may do a great job of cleansing the body of toxins, they tend to over-cleanse and can leave individuals in a state of depletion.  Plus, it can be hard for the body to set to the task of cleansing in completion when the body lacks the energy necessary to do the job fully.

Ayurvedic cleanse focuses on improvement of agni, otherwise known as the digestive fire.  A simple but nourishing diet helps the body have enough strength to cleanse properly and also helps rebuild a healthy gut microbiome, an important element of strong immunity and mind health.

Cleanse can be done at varying lengths and intensities depending on what is manageable in an individual's life and circumstances.  Since we revisit cleanse annually, alternating between a more simple cleanse and a more complex and deep cleanse can be beneficial.

Om Maitri Ayurveda hosts a variety of cleanse opportunities.

Twice yearly, we offer our Annual Community Cleanse. This cleanse is ideal for people hoping to reset and restore a commitment to health practices, who want to learn the fundamentals of Ayurvedic nutrition, and who may experience disturbances of the digestive or eliminative systems. This is an online opportunity that lasts 10 days.

We have also opened scheduling for Autumn Deep Cleanse.  This process involves working one on one with Britney, Om Maitri Ayurveda Practitioner, to create a completely individualized cleanse that balances you in body, mind and spirit.  This cleanse can include an individualized cleanse diet, cleanse herbs unique to your body’s needs, and recommendations for body therapies and practices to be applied at home or with a specialist. This course of treatment is ideal for individuals experiencing symptoms beyond digestive disturbance, those who prefer to cleanse without the group, or for those seeking long or short-term symptomatic Ayurvedic care.

Take Note:

“Britney and her Om Maitri practice truly set me on a path of honest health. It can feel slow, painful, a bit strange but I find that many of the practices and suggestions I am still using today. Once my digestion and emotional spirit aligned, everything else followed- and it is still recalibrating into the incredible, beautiful human that I am. A big issue for me emotionally was I had a lot of deep cystic acne and pigmentation scars along with melasma. I was too self-conscious to go anywhere without make-up. I tried everything- and I’m here to tell you, what Britney had me do, and the work I went through was 100% worth it. My skin is beautiful. But best of all, I feel so much better and more connected and confident. I love you forever for your love, work, and help.
